SAying that his technic is not perfect is a little bit much. Firslty he is probably the most skilled martial artist of the lot in the cinema check out the drunken master( any part). Secondly he is trying to imitate his idol. Buster Keaton.

if you have not seen it yet, there is a movie from back in the 1980s called 3 young dragons/3 kung fu kids. there are two parts and it is a filled fest of stunts and action. its got dick wei from jet li's dragon fight in the second part. the first part of kung fu kids is mostly kiddie stuff, with some good fights towards the end, but the second part is stunt fest galore. towards the end of the second one, they showed bloopers of some of the stuntmen getting injured. another stunt fest movie is born to fight by thai director Panna Rittikrai, before he got popular with tony jaas ong bak. it also has some bloopers at the end. i liked how they explain the part where they're fighting off of two moving trucks and the stunt person took the bump.

Just a reminder, the old HK movies were not slow because the martial artists and actors couldn’t move at a higher speed, they could. But the HK martial arts cinema was all about theater. The choreos are like dances. The purpose wasn’t to be realistic, everyone in Hong Kong and China knew two martial artists wouldn’t fight like this. But it was an artistic choice to create original, unique and intriguing action sequences

The big difference: Actors/Stuntmen who actually do Martial Arts vs the new "all I need to know is how to fall without hurting myself". Because every single American action movie has this obvious cut across a fight action, half a meter before it even connects. But with martial artists, there are actual hits, actual blocks and if there's a cut, it's like 10cm before it connects, not a mile before. Looks way different. Same with being a Martial Artist gives you a lot of practice to "stop at the right moment" during practice. That skill translates to the screen.

Many of these scenes... no,all of these scenes take many retakes..and the bats/sticks he used are all props made for the stunts..so that nobody gets hurt....that is the reason these scenes are so breathtaking. They rehearse it like a dance many times before they actually do it...and that too is filmed in parts.Yes it is amazing and a lot of hardwork has gone into making it but at the end of the day it is all acting and stuntmen are good at acting also..so credit should be given to their acting skills too.

Incredibly surprising, ever changing action comedy, with stunning moves by everyone. Thrilling and full of laugh out loud moments. This is more than a tribute to Jackie Chan. There are styles of action choreography that are timeless. They stay fresh if they're done well. This style of choreography could work in modern movies. Spider-Man comes to mind as a character that has humor in his action. I'd love to see an actor who knows martial arts go this direction.

I remember in one interview I think Jackie said that in Hollywood movies the fight scenes are always many angles, dark rooms and focused on the face of the actor because they cannot fight even if it's choreograph by a stunt man. So as u can see on Jackie Chan movies it's always wide angle an can see all the hits and angles of the fight because they can really fight even his opponents. They can all take a serious hit. And Jackie always wear different color of shirt against his opponents when fighting so u can easily identify him.
